Festivals and Events: Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway, New Mexico

The communities along The Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway are host to several popular events,

festivals and other cultural attractions. Parades, entertainers, crafts and good food provide excitement for all.

»   The Pecan Festival in Cuchillo occurs the fourth weekend in February as a celebration of the pecan harvest. Pecan pies, pecan candy, food, vendors, arts and crafts, entertainment.

»   The Winston Spring Fiesta in Winston happens the third Saturday in April. Parade, food, cow-chip poker, games, flea market, dance.

»   The very popular Balloon Regatta at Elephant Butte Lake is the third weekend in April. Ascension of hot-air balloons, with splash-n-dash over the water teamed with motorboat crews, balloon glow on the beach.

»   T or C Fiesta in Truth or Consequences comes the first weekend in May. Parade, celebrity stage show, races, fiddlers, golf tournament, arts and crafts, vendors.

»   Second Saturday in May in Hillsboro is a village yard sale with food, local artisans, bake sale, and bingo.

»   The 4th of July Fireworks at Elephant Butte Lake State Park is held on the weekend closest to the holiday. The show begins at dusk from Rattlesnake Island, reflected over the water.

»   The Apple Festival in Hillsboro happens every Labor Day Weekend. Apple pie contest, apple pies and cider, arts and crafts, pony rides, horseback rides, trolley rides, gold panning, antiques, food.

»   Geronimo Days in Truth or Consequences occurs the second weekend in October. Two days of different Native American, Hispanic and cowboy entertainers. Frontier town, gunfighters, food and vendor booths.

»   The New Mexico Old Time Fiddler's State Contest in Truth or Consequences is the third weekend in October. Contestant from all over New Mexico compete in various age categories for State Championships. Competition, jam sessions, dances.

»   The Veteran's Day Car Show in Truth or Consequences is a juried show and display of classic cars and tractors from all over Southwest.

»   Christmas In The Foothills in Hillsboro is a celebration of pre-Christmas with open houses at art galleries and historic homes in Hillsboro.

»   The New Year's Boat Parade at Elephant Butte Lake is a parade of decorated and lighted boats. New Year's dinner is served afterwards at the Dam Site Marina.
